How big is the market for the MEGA65 after the DevKit release?

  • What's your situation regarding the MEGA65? 58

    1. I own a DevKit and I also want to buy a MEGA65. (10) 17%
    2. I own a DevKit, that's enough for me. I don't want to buy a MEGA65. (0) 0%
    3. I wanted to buy a DevKit, but I didn't get one. So I will buy a MEGA65. (2) 3%
    4. I didn't buy the DevKit. I only want the MEGA65. (37) 64%
    5. I wanted neither the DevKit nor I want the MEGA65. I just want to play Choplifter! (9) 16%

Last night I had an interesting conversation with a colleague who is also interested in the MEGA65 project. Among other things, the question arose how big is the market with people who want to buy a MEGA65?

After all, 100 "hardcore" fans stocked up on the available DevKits in a surprisingly fast time.

I left that out. At the moment my Nexys board is enough for me to work with it. :loet

I assume that only the very least DevKit owners will also buy a MEGA65?

How many are there "out there" who are "impatiently" waiting for the MEGA65? Or is the market for it already largely saturated?

For this I just made this survey ... :)

  • will go for Nexxys-Board as I need to familiarize myself with Vivado, etc. Completely different approach, but I need to familiarize myself with it anyway, so this is as good a project as any.

  • Aside from the wish to support the MEGA65 project financially, what other reason is there to buy the MEGA65 if you already have the DevKit?

Simple: Once the MEGA65 is finished, the DevKit wanders into my display case & the M65 becomes the main development machine ;-)

Who knows, maybe someday it will become a collector's item. Then again, maybe not. Fact is, I'm not going to repeat the mistake I made by selling my C65 20 years ago ;-)

  • I will buy the final Mega65. The reason is simple. I bought the DevKit, because I couldn't wait. The final Version has the fantastic new case. The Mega65 is so exciting. It's a beauty and in my opinion it is a must have.

  • Hi vicjack, even if your post is not a response to the above poll, it's more about advertisment, i'll answer it quickly. If magazines contact us, we're happy to provide material and give an interview. But we will not spend a single penny on advertisements. we rely on the product and the community.

    btt:

Even if i own a Preseries machine (R2 board) (and whoever thinks we got them for free is wrong, we bought the preseries machines also for between 1000 and 1500€ each !!! )

And i have a R3 board at home for testing (doesn't belong to me) i'll go for the final MEGA65 as well.

Because i want the latest keyboard with the doubleshot keycaps and i want to have the R3 board and i want to have the injection moulded case.

  • I've been following the MEGA65 project from the beginning and I've been always interested in the full machine. I didn't buy the DevKit, because at the moment I don't have time or inspiration for coding something on it, and I think for me personally the full machine makes more sense, so I'll wait. However, if I had bought the DevKit, I would still consider buying the full machine afterwards, because it's much more attractive to me than having just the DevKit, even if I could do the same with it!

    Hello adtbm

Sorry for the confusion. But the subject is: "How big is the marked?" But you are right, its not the place to discuss it here.

But I never meant to spend something for adverts!

This years "Retro" magazine was not very good, I loved them years before and I dont understand

why the magazine does not contact the Mega team.

  • I bought the devkit because I couldn't wait and to support the project. I will buy the final machine because that IS the project :). I would buy a case for my devkit.. But I would put it aside for it unless needed, I would also buy the final. With two machines I could do mega65 networked games :)

I can't see a reason not to buy both unless money was an issue, in which case that's a different issue. I'm lucky in a sense that I sold most of my collection 10 to 15 years ago.. so wifey doesn't mind buying some to add now :)

  • Why so negative? I do know a lot of people interested in the Mega65 who didn't attend this survey. I hope the Mega65 will be a huge success.

That was an ironic attempt by me to get the MEGA65 faster. :D

I am very positively amazed that even DevKit owners want to buy a (second) MEGA65. I find the interest in the "not-so-cheap" device very gratifying and great!
