Demonstration of the Configuration (Bios) and the Freezer menu

  • During the last MEGA65 development marathon M.E.G.A. made a nice video, where Paul presents both

    menues.

    The

    - Configuration menu, access during startup by pressing both SHIFT-keys. (comparable to a PCs Bios. settings like MAC Adress, NTSC/PAL, etc.)

    and the

    - Freezer menu, which is accessable from every mode, c64 or c65, by holding RESTORE for ~2 sec. (It is a freezer with built in monitor, save slots, etc.)

    Without further delay:

    Here is the video !

So this is really genius... I also use a freezer/monitor with VICE for debugging during programming. If this also works on the real hardware, and you don't need any additional modules, it's really cool!

This is the case: No freeze cartridge required, and you can easily load and save things. I already have a dozen or so games frozen for the kids to easily play on the MEGA65. Took them about 2 minutes to learn how to drive it, and they now happily play games while I am at work and they are on school holidays.

  • I must just pop in a post here and make an apology for the configuration program "problem" that Paul had...

I have tried to give him an update without the "Apply Now" feature (three times) but there was a hectic amount of work going on for both of us at the time and it seems to have been lost.

I actually still think that the feature would be useful for when changing video settings and allowing a check to ensure that they are working but this confirmation check isn't currently present. Without it, the feature is kind of redundant.

Anyway, we should sort it out! *lol* :P

  • Yes, we should. In theory my time starts to free up a bit after mid-November. But even before then, if you have time, feel free to make a pull request against the development branch's copy of the configure program, and I'll accept it.

  • Argh... I seem to have lost that version of the program. I was being very lax about keeping things organised at the time.

I'll see what I can do about reshuffling my schedule to get the Mega65 project stuff happening in the next few weeks.

I really should have sorted this out a long time ago. Sorry, sorry!
