How to find the latest stable bitstream and convert it to .COR?

  • Thanks Anton. I'm a DevKit owner. Is the name of the file I'm looking for "MEGA65 SD card essentials.rar", which includes the ROM?

Also, I assume the "ROM" is the .COR file you told me about prior and I don't have to copy that file separately? So I simply unrar this zip file into the root, overwriting the files that are there, and reboot, holding down "NO SCROLL" to flash the .COR?

    Yes.

No, the .COR file is the bitstream version (.BIT) converted to .COR. if you use the version i've posted earlier in this thread you have a quite new version. This .COR belongs onto the SD card TOGETHER with the SD card essentials.
The ROM is the copyrighted Kernel ROM of the C65. As a DevKit owner you have direct access to it and it is included in the Zipped file "SD card essentials".

Or to describe it simple, while the .COR (.BIT, .MCS) describe the hardware, the ROM is the OS

(btw, .MCS and .COR are just converted files from the .BIT, you can do the conversion easily with m65connect, downloadable at our filehost).

So, i would do your task in the following way:

    - backup SD card onto your PC (just copy all files into an folder, i.e. m65_SDbackup on your PC)

    - prepare the SDcard in the MEGA65 by using the SD utility (hold ALT while powering MEGA65 on, enter SDutilities and format & patition the SDcard (drive "0")

    - copy the unpacked files from SDcard essentials to the root of your SDcard on a PC

    - copy the .COR file to the root of your SDcard

    - (optional) copy other .D81 disc images that you like onto the SDcard as well

    - power MEGA65 on while holding NO SCROLL key (to enter flash utility)

    - press CTRL & 1 to flash a .COR into slot 1

    - select the .COR file on the SDcard and press RETURN.

    - wait untill flashing is completed

    - power cycle MEGA65, the .COR is now flashed to slot 1 and MEGA65 should automatically use this bitstream

you can double check by pressing MEGA & TAB key when booted. Matrix mode should show you the current bitstream version. You can press MEGA & TAB again to leave Matrix mode again.)

  • Hi Anton,

I am a devkit owner, but I don't see SD Essentials with ROM. I don't see a place to enter my SN neither.

Do you know if there has been a COR update since your email from Jan 2, 2021? If so, do you know what I'd be looking for on the Files site? I have the M65Connect utility, so I can make my own core if I know what the source files (bitstream?) are.

    Thanks again.

  • Hi Matthewpowers,

you need to register at our filehost:

There you can register with your unique DevKit Serial number, then you'll be able to get access to all files.

Without registration you only have limited access.

Thanks Anton. I registered, but didn't see a place to put my SN. Also, it mentioned a redeem code, which I assumed would be emailed to me, but was never emailed. I try to put my SN in that, but it wouldn't accept it.

  • Normally it's the button on the top right, anyway, if you have problems registering your SN, could i ask you, to contact @Tayger at our Discordserver ?

He can fix this within minutes.

  • Hi,

I have got a problem. I have no access to the 920219 bitstream. Can anyone help me? I cannot find it under the filehost, just the regular ones. I own an DevKit and would like to try it out.

    Have a nice weekend.

    Achim

  • Thanks LGB-Z ,

wins4 already contacted me, and i believe he is sorted :-)
But you're of course right, he was refering to the ROM not the bitstream/core

  • I am very grateful about this fantastic community. Thank you very much.
