What is hypervisor?

  • Hello,

I am wondering what is hypervisor? What benefits does it give? In what practical action is it used for? How is hypervisor useful in games? How is it useful in apps? How is it useful if someone wants to develop a complete OS from ground up? If we don't use it at all...would we lose on not using it (beside the coo power LED turning off, hehe)?

  • At this stage the best way to think of the hypervisor is as a freeze cartridge on steroids.

On a C64 the distinction between an application and the OS is rather blurry at the best of times, and this fine tradition will therefore be continued.

It will likely provide some related conveniences, like easy access to the VFAT32 filesystem on the SD card, that a guest OS might like to make use of, but need not use if it doesn't want to.

    Paul.

Me: AAAH! It makes full sense now.

    Me: SWEEET!! Awesome! :)

Me: Ah sweet! :) I guess someone out there might use hypervisor in the nerd department but it is not essential for the C65 experience. Cool!

    Thanks for your help :D
