Beiträge von CommFor im Thema „neue Controller (Joypads) für C64 gesucht“

    Good to know!

Anyway, I'm really happy with my PSX adapter on C64.
It can emulate different joysticks, joypad, mice on C64/Amiga/Atari ST and other retro machines - I prefer using PS2 analogue controllers instead of D-Pad because it gives another dimension to retro-gaming, very precise plus I can go wireless too 8)

Here's another supplier (this time from Europe, not from Canada meaning no potential customs problems, expensive post and long wait for delivery) of C64 adapter for SNES controller:

You can see on third picture there are four command layouts to choose from.

I think Retro-Nerd will be all over the moon to use this with his original SNES joypad :D

Unfortunately, PCB doesn't have casing, but life isn't perfect.

I can confirm this cheap wireless PS2 controller working with PSX adapter on C64 because I use that one:

Well, I'm really not expert in PS2 controllers, but looks like it has decent quality.
And I can confirm it's working very well with C64

Now we have opportunity to use wireless controllers for all well-known 8-16-32-bit computers & consoles except Nintendo 64.

C=Mac, Knusis, in post 7 in this topic I gave you link to PDF manual for PSX adapter.

On page 2, you have table which combination of keys you need to press simultaneously on your PS2 controller to go to mode you want.

For C64 is standard joystick emulation one fire button.

If you bought this adapter from Paul Willingham, he will be very happy to help you if you still has a problem ^^

    C=Mac,

Sorry for posting in english language here in german forum, but my knowledge of german is pretty weak.

Use google translator for this post, if you need it. This is the way how I read posts in german language :)

    Answers to your questions:

    1. Yes, you can use wired & wireless PlayStation 2 controllers on C64/128 as joystick or mouse.
You can even use PlayStation mouse as C64 mouse with this adapter!

    2. I don't know if PlayStation 2 controller has auto-fire option (shame on me!), but CapFuture1975 can answer this question.

    3. You don't need special software.
PSX adapter is already programmed for all modes that you need.
You just need to press combination of certain keys of on your PS2 controller to choose mode that you want (one-fire button, two-fire button, CD32, Amiga mouse, C64 mouse, Atari ST mouse etc.).
There's even an option to program extra two modes like you want.

For example, if you want one-fire button mode for your C64, you choose this mode, and adapter will memorize it and use it as one-button joystick all the time!

    Really, it's fantastic product.

Regarding joypad Boomerang B103 we're talking about here, there's review on youtube:

Bitte melde dich an, um dieses Medienelement zu sehen.

You can see there how precise is this joypad with joystick add-on testing on Last Ninja game.

Regarding this review, I would like to point out two things:

    1. Reviewer complaints about short cable. Reason for this is that he bought economic edition of Boomerang B103E (cable length is 1.2 meters), and luxury edition B103L has really long cable - 2 meters to be precise.

Spanish link I gave you in this thread for buying this joypad is for luxury edition (that includes two add-ons - spherical dome and joystick add-ons for d-pad, for economic version you need to buy these add-ons separately).

    2. Reviewer forgot to mention that turbofire button is lockable, so you don't need to hold your finger on it constantly in shoot'em ups ;)

All other solutions for using new joypads on C64/Amiga are double priced, because you need to buy bulky adapter and joypad for other consoles.

Just like I said, PSX adapter with PS2 controller is best solution.
Best thing is - you can choose to use digital or analogue commands on PS2 controller - they work at the same time :)
    CapFuture1975 can confirm that.

But this solution with Boomerang B103L one-button joypad will satisfy almost all C64 users wanting joypad for playing games, knowing that C64 doesn't support second fire button.

It's ergonomic, economic, very good and doesn't need adapter to work.
It's not perfect, but for sure deserves 4 out of 5 stars.

If you want to use it on Amiga with games supporting two-fire buttons, forget it - second fire-button is not supported on this joypad.

    Retro-Nerd,

Tilobyte asks for NEW joypads he can use on his C64.
Original SNES and 6-button Megadrive controllers you mentioned are not in production for 20 years probably.

BUT, since you love original SNES controller (who doesn't), there's another possibility (someone needs to try it to see if it works!) to use excellent SNES controller wirelessly on C64/Amiga (!).

Besides SNES adapter to typical 9-pin joystick port we mentioned and gave link above, these two other things needs to be bought:

Everyone wrote fantastic comments about that wireless SNES pad ;)

    Retro-Nerd,

Boomerang joypads are really crap and worthless if you use their d-pads it without joystick add-on or spherical add-on.

But with joystick add-on on top of d-pad is really very good controller.

With spherical add-on on top of d-pad is average (anyway, you receive both add-ons or none with joypad - nobody will use spherical, only joystick add-on, because it's much better for precise moves).

Boomerang 103 has two LEDs - green for power and red one blinking when you press fire.
Silly thing is that red LED blinking sometimes on joypad when C64 loading games :)

And Boomerang joypads are only ones you can buy it today new with typical 9-pin Atari game port.

If something is real crap, that's Boomerang B432 joypad as replacement for CD32 joypad.

For every other options we mentioned here you're using controllers for consoles with adapters.

CapFuture1975, sorry for double link for SNES adapter, I didn't realize you already posted it to Tilobyte.

Retro-Nerd, Boomerang 103 joypad I mentioned in this topic is not bad at all!

Have this at home - with turbo-fire and auto-fire option is perfect for shoot'em ups like Turrican!
Big plus - joypad is very light, you use it with both hands, so you can play it for hours without arm-pains ;)

And on that link to Amiga Spanish site I gave where you can buy it, you will see it has both add-ons for it - joystick and spherical dome, and it will come to you in original package. So, you will receive full deluxe edition.

Typical good joystick for C64/Amiga (like Competition Pro) is heavy, you use it with one hand and it's not ergonomic to play it for hours.
But it's perfect for games requiring precision (like Raid over Moscow).

    Tylobite,

Third option for using new joypads forC64/ Amiga/Atari is adapter for SNES controller (and new SNES controller you can buy cheap on internet):

Bitte melde dich an, um diesen Link zu sehen.

    Another Canadian.

I don't have this adapter, but having another one from him - it's a top-notch!

Check his web-site, he offers so many gaming adapters for so many computers/consoles ;)

He's not cheap, but products are great.

Second option for using joypads on your C64/Amiga/Atari ST are joypads from polish Matt company.

For C64, this is the best version (one-button joystick but with fire/autofire and turbofire option), currently available here:

Bitte melde dich an, um diesen Link zu sehen.

Pad is OK only if you have this joystick add-on:

Bitte melde dich an, um diesen Link zu sehen.

    Tylobite,

Best option for Amiga/C64/Atari/ST/CD32 joypad is PS/PS2 wired/wireless controller with PSX adapter for DB9 Computers.
You can see what this adapter offers here:

Bitte melde dich an, um diesen Link zu sehen.

You can contact kipper2k@shaw.ca to buy new adapter.
    Guy is in Canada.

Or you can buy same adapter (seller refurbished) from Paul Willingham (author of this adapter) in UK:

This adapter has so many emulation modes it can even emulate Amiga/Atari ST/C64 mouse ;)

    No lag, adapter is fantastic!

No wonder CapFuture1975 has 6 of them, hehe
