Beiträge von BastetFurry im Thema „D64 mounter plugin“

Um, i would say, make some statistical work how many files the games open at once.
I couldnt imagine that they open more than two or three files at once.

The very best quess would be a (maybe) graphic config tool on the PC side that edits the source and then makes an individual plugin for the needs of the user.
Would mean that the sources would be compatible with some PC crossassembler ;)

BTW: I am rewriting stuff and grab what i need from your source. Any objections against GPL'ing this stuff?

    BastetFurry:
I just checked when the Willow Party 2006 is held, and that's September 1st already. If you manage to make FAT16 patch by then my hat's off to you! My first proof-of concept code of kernal patcher was done last year already, but real work started in the end of June so it took a month and a half to be ready for first release (and I was on vacation some of that time). Writing proper FAT16 support in less than three weeks sounds like a little miracle.

Um, i know how FAT works ;)
I had to "study" that stuff for Skern and his IECATA.
As long as the contents on the SD-Card are the same as on a normal disk i think there should be no bigger problems.
Only real problem for me is that i dont have a SS at hand for debuging, so my debuging will be trough little byte messages at $400 ;)

Dont hold your breath, i have an occuping real life :-/

    EDIT:
I dont think it will be doable without the RR as you need some extra RAM, should be doable with the RAM in the AR tough, have to look at it.
But now i am helping a friend in a move, then i have to repair a broken rainpipe at my house and many other things.
But ill have a look at the code this night.
Ill try to implement reading and saving trough kernal routines (LOAD and SAVE) till Willow. I think i will give the MMC Disk Accses a default disk number of 12 so that it can be used as a normal harddisk.

    - commands to change directory

Thats that little floppy command "CD:", no big deal.

    - PETSCII <--> ASCII filenames need to be coded some way

Chars are roughly $64 bytes shifted, rest remains the same.

    - allocating new space has to be done with FAT16 instead of simpler BAM

Um, you have to walk the FAT to check what cluster is free, then, when having a new file, check where to place the first part.
As you have all the time in the c64 world you wouldnt even need to puffer FAT.

    - no direct access

    Dont need, kernal stuff.

    - someone will eventually ask why you can't mount D64 file inside FAT16, then get out of it with "CD:.." :)

Then i will get out some big and fat stick and beat them to the d64 mounter plugin. :bgdev
