You're engaging in mental gymnastics to justify breaking the law and maliciously infringing on intellectual property belonging to us and others.

"No word, no update...who's the robber and the pirate?" I am not aware of you ever acknowledging any of the updates we have posted (particularly the most recent ones), but you know very well that we just demo'd our game because it was JUST discussed in this thread. The last update we posted reflected progress that we've made, and showed other people playing our game and enjoying it. You have created a straw man of us and acted with malice based on a fiction of your own making.

You seek to shame me, but I am not ashamed because I know the truth, which is this: We have continued working to finish Unknown Realm, and putting fun and good into the world through the JollyDisk, and every other thing we make from feelies to Christmas cards. Each of these are intended to bring some light to as many people as we can while we work on finishing the game. If we're lucky enough to make any money off of them, it goes right back into making the game. We've done this despite personal and professional obstacles, through a global pandemic and severe economic downturn, and all the while under the weight of relentless bullying that most people would not be able to withstand (and more than a few creators in the C64 community have left because they could not endure the hostility that is so prevalent here).

Your feigned outrage about the money we raised (which amounts to less than an $8/hr minimum wage for a single person over 7 years) and some imagined harm that's done to others is a false pretense to justify the inhumane treatment of us by this community, but it does not excuse you or anyone else. It is people like YOU who ruin the retro community for everyone, not us.

Contacting your lawyer sounds like a good idea.

adtbm Nothing spreads Christmas cheer like pirating a $10 Christmas disk and accidentally getting your favorite internet forum shut down by big record company lawyers because the disk contains licensed music.

Forum64 distribute this at your own risk, we paid to license some of that music and the record companies do seem to care about enforcing their intellectual property rights.

TheRealWanderer I don't know what the policy is for piracy here but I wanted to advise you that it isn't just our copyright that's being infringed by distributing these files.

Laura, I'm relieved you're here to say hello! Thank you so much for that, and sharing your opinions, insight -- everything, really. [...]

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I've been thinking of posting here for a long time and I truly appreciate knowing we are welcome here. I'll try to drop by and engage in the conversation more...who knows, I might even be able to twist Bruce's arm into signing up.

He received a full refund of his Kickstarter pledge [...]

At this stage I'm quite a bit jealous that adamantyr got a refund

    Have you requested a refund?

We plan to refund everyone on the small list of requests we have when the game ships and we have revenue coming in, but I do try to refund one person a month out of our family budget. If you'd like a refund, please send me an email (hello-AT-stirringdragon-DOT-games) and I will add your name to the list. You also need to make sure your credit card information in Kickstarter is up to date otherwise I can't process the refund.

By the way - a refund to one backer usually means someone else on the wait list will be able to get a copy (when the game ships), so if someone wants to be on the wait list, you can email me at the same address to make that request.

People aren't trying to sabotage the development, they just want to hear what you're doing with the money they gave to you in good faith.

It's true, *most people* aren't - most people either want to know what's going on, or just want to play the game. But I'm sorry to say that some people actually *are* trying to sabotage development. I know people don't want to hear that, but it's just a fact. There are a lot of examples but for the sake of keeping it shorter, I'll just give you one instance...

Last year, we were invited to give a presentation about Unknown Realm at a virtual C64 event. The event organizer publicized our involvement before we'd even officially accepted the invitation, but contacted us shortly after to withdraw the invitation because, according to him, multiple individuals from the C64 community threatened to sabotage the event if we were allowed to participate...so we were "uninvited" and not allowed to talk about our game. We have reason to expect that this will continue to be an issue, and it hurts the people in this community who care about this game.

You consider a simple question like "how's the development going?" as harassment.

This is simply untrue. I've answered many emails asking that question. The answer doesn't always make people happy because they really just want to know when the game will be done (and I can't tell them that because I don't know yet), but I don't have a problem answering it.

What we do consider harassment is people asking bad faith questions and moving the goal posts, or, in your case, representing themselves as backers when they are not (which you have done on several occasions) to paint us in a false light. You admit you're not a backer but you have claimed to be one on Twitter, and you've also claimed on Twitter that we owe you items from our store that you supposedly ordered - which was a flat out lie. Lying and misrepresenting yourself to try and make us look bad *is* harassment and any rational person would object to such treatment.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone just told me that the name "Unknown Realm" was removed from this thread title after Bruce's tweet...I had to see it for myself.

I am one of the developers of Unknown Realm. People in this thread know me. I was on the jury of the Forum64 + Protovision Sports Games Compo in 2017, and I know we have many fans and backers here (and curious observers who are just interested in the game's development). I usually don't post here because I don't speak German and I am nervous about translations not coming across correctly.

Adam Haase, aka Adamantyr, has been trolling threads about Unknown Realm for several years and his behavior pattern is the same in every thread:

    1) character assassination of the devs (myself and my husband, Bruce)

    2) promote his own game

    3) encourage everyone to "stop talking" in the thread to deprive us of "attention"

Despite his lip service that RPG devs should be allies, Adam has repeatedly attacked the mental health status of my husband, and engaged in personal attacks directed at me as well. At one time, he was a backer of Unknown Realm and even told us in 2018 that our project inspired him to get back to work on finishing his game for the TI-99 computer. He received a full refund of his Kickstarter pledge when it became clear to us that he had a personal vendetta against us.

I am disappointed to see Forum64 mods enable his carefully disguised trolling. We appreciate our community of German fans and it's a shame to see Forum64 pulled down to the level of Adam's self-interested political posturing. His game is out, he succeeded in his goal and he should be celebrating his success, but instead he continues to troll the internet for new places to cast aspersions on us. There is plenty of room for everyone in the retro RPG scene but people like Adam seem very determined to make sure there is no place for SDG.

Unknown Realm is a project that is very important to us and we have not given up on it. The path to finish it since Kickstarter has not worked out as we planned or expected, but we are still committed to seeing it through to the end. We never imagined we would face the kind of resistance (on all fronts) that we've faced, but that's just life. Things don't work out the way you want sometimes. When the game does finally come out, it will be all the more special because of it...this game really is a love letter to classic RPGs and the beloved C64 from Bruce and we hope it will be received that way when it's done. There will be quite a story to tell once it's all over - but maybe we'll be able to meet some of you at a Gamescom in the future and share that story in person.
