As much as I like floppy drive what about disks?

  • I know that even floppy drives are hard to get. What about 3,5' floppy disks? Especially DD, HD were produced some 10 years (maybe even less) ago.

    1. Would you (as Mega65) consider a Mega 65 model without floppy drive? (I would buy one with floppy drive just for look of it)

    2. How about a "converter" for microsd cards in form of floppy disk - at the very least it would give a feeling of using it as a drive not only a "look and feel" of C65/C64DX?

The Nexys4DDR is without a floppy drive, but the Real MEGA65 with Case should have the floppy drive, since this is just, how the c65 looked like

and even if a user doesn't want to use it, at least the drive will generate the sounds, when accessing the SD card.

This does sound interesting, but as stated above, the MEGA65 should have a functional 3.5" floppy drive. But i do look forward to the first modders

who will create such an SD-floppydisc... reader...

  • As I wrote I would rather buy Mega 64 with floppy drive. Still, having floppy drive and no floppyies would made this drive just for show and sound. I would relly like to use it as 1581 substitute. It would have nostalgic feeling and I would like to show my child how fun it is (compared to using cassette player and fixing signals :).

Would it be possible to use HD disks or only DD?

  • I see it should be possible to use DD and HD floppies.

  • At the moment only DD disks work, but it should be possible to use HD disks, but this will require some work on our part to understand how to control the drive in HD mode. The floppy controller is all in our VHDL code in the FPGA, so it isn't a problem from a theoretical basis. In fact, even ED drives should be possible to support, if you can find one. I have one here for future testing :)

Well, and if you (or any other) have the drive and searches for the disks, you may get them Bitte melde dich an, um diesen Link zu sehen..

Ideen, die ich mit eurer Hilfe gerne wahr machen würde:

  • Unfortunately, no more people make floppy disks, there's a market to be taken with the retro computer popularity.;)

  • we have stacked thousands of disks and are willing to share them with the community ;)
