Ist halt wie so vieles Geschmacksache. Ich finde z.B. die DOS-Version von "Der Clou" musikalisch ziemlich cool:

Es geht nicht um standard OPL oder alte Dos Spiele. OPL war schon sehr gut damals. Aber nur im Original. Die nachgemachten von Creative / SoundBlaster waren grauenvoll.

Hatte selbst mal einen PC mit einem "SB128 PCI" oder sowas, eigentlich dachte ich wenn das schon ein SoundBlaster von Creative ist, dann muesste der doch auch so klingen, aber ploetzlich klang alles anders. Kann mich noch erinnern dass die Titelmusik von Spear of Destiny auf einmal mehr Aehnlichkeit mit Monkey Island hatte...

Man muss das ja alles in Relation sehen... ich habe früher auch viel mit Adlib, Soundblaster, und später AWE32, Gravis Ultrasound etc. gemacht. Und zur Not kann man mit einer Adlib ja auch Samples abspielen

HW is powered by 180MHz STM32F446 ARM-Cortex M4 MPU with dual 12bit DAC.
SW - SID emulation same as in ARMSID just doubled and with an extra configurable software address decoder.
FM synthesis = OPL2 emulation of YM3812 (backward compatible with YM3526 from original SFX expander, just 3 more waveforms added, compatible with FM-YAM expander) with DAC clocked by clock o2/16 (about 62kHz) when "FM only" mode set or o2/32 (about 31kHz) when SID + FM set (DAC clock in original OPL2 cards is about 49kHz).
Example of sound output is here: fmx_music_demo, just recorded as stereo from my C64 with ARM2SID inside and with this demo program. SID emulation in left channel, SFX expander in right. -

Do you also implement timers and interrupts for the YM*? (e.g. for the autodetection procedure)

I'm preparing a web page about ARM2SID with several technical details.
Just one question as the web page is not published yet. Can the FM part of the ARM2SID be deactivated? I'd guess there'll be some incompatibilities otherwise.

Timers and also keyboard matrix (returning no pushed key) from original SFX expander are implemented, autodetection works fine. Just IRQ is not wired.
And yes, the mapping of the SFX can be disabled and it is disabled by default.

Can the FM-Feature also be added to the ARMSIDs? Would be awesome

Den ARM2SID habe ich laut Anleitung konfiguriert:
PIN CONNECTION: SOCKET
SID/1: SIDL
SID/2: SFX
EMULATION MODE: BOTHDie U64 habe ich wie folgt konfiguriert:
SID in Socket 1: 8580
SID in Socket 2: 8580
SID Socket 1 Address: $D400
SID Socket 2 Address: $DF00Allerdings höre ich nur etwas am rechten Kanal.

Das geht wohl derzeit noch nicht, zumindest meinte Martin er wäre mit Gideon in Kontakt zwecks einer speziellen Firmware für das U64.
