FInaly the parts arrived, assembled ....
But have no picture when I plug it in ....
Used the no patch firmware, set fuses
Low = 0xF0
High = 0xDF
Ext = 0xF9
THe led on borad is ON, have a noisy sound on power up, but no pic ....
HAve an 8580 in my C64 so I jumpered J2 only ...
Advices
HiResPic of the populated SID? Maybe ab short on the adress or databus.
Here, I put a solder blob on J2, I don't have a 2mm jumper ![]()
Even tryed with the original firmware SwinSID88_20120524
ATmega88 not capable of running @ 32 MHz?
So you sugest to try to change the OSC ???
Or how to test it ???
Just connect VCC, GND and AUDIO_OUT.
Flash a firmware with "power on ping".
Listen if it pings at power up.
If it doesn't, something is wrong with it.
Changing the osc to a 20 MHz one might give a hint.
The have been reportings here that newer lots of ATmega88s do not like overclocking to 32 MHz.
Huh, have an 25Mhz, will try with him ....
THX
Nope, even don't work with 25Mhz ...
DOn't have any lower OSC ...
I have to admit that when I turn the C64 on, I have a noise sound all the time, but still no pic ...
kinzi Could you please guide me how to try to connect the 4 SID board
See Readme ...
OK; I have found the A5 and A8 on the CPU, connected them with fast pin headers ...
But still don't have any sound ....
All 4 SID's put to L, and the onboard jumper is set on ...
DO I have to get a sound even if I don't connect the A5 and A8 ????
DO I have to get a sound even if I don't connect the A5 and A8 ????
Yes.
Instead of connecting address bus pins, you can pulk the address input pins to GND. This wil permanently select the first SwinSID:
74HC138 is not the right part. It may or may not be your problem, though. You should use LS, or maybe HCT.
Also, I am not sure what an ATMEGA88PA-U is... I've seen PA-PU and they work. You could just have fake or wrong chips?
However, no picture? You have some other wiring issue here, I would think. Try it with no ATMEGAs in the sockets.
Changed the 138 from HC to LS ... still nothing ...
Strange that the single SID works, but this 4 SID not, even not on single chanel ...
Can the nanoSID be programmed per fuse to set the internal OSC ??? AND SHOULD IT WORK ???
You double check your resistor values and placement?
Can the nanoSID be programmed per fuse to set the internal OSC ???
Sure.
AND SHOULD IT WORK ???
Since the internal RC oscillator is running at 8 MHz - no.
OK, what should the value of the OSC be ???
20 or 16 Mhz ????
or some other value ???
Depends on your device, it seems ...

ATmega88PA-U is totally unknown to the datasheets (missing case designating character after the dash).
