It really only costs about 1,50 Euro+Atmega88 if you order the pcbs together with other pcbs and all parts are from Ali.
You can build the SKPico even without level shifters, then it's just the RP2040 board price (available for <3€ at AliE) plus some wiring. That's less than the Atmega on its own - given that you manage to get some Atmegas that actually work.
If you sell a 64, is a swinsid better than a broken sid!
Yeah great, you get a bit more money, the buyer gets a C64 that will make him wonder whether Paradroid and Fort Apocalypse were really that bad back in his youth.

There is an adapter board design available without shifters?

One other thing to add is that's I've used the atmega88p chips (That failed on the swinsid) on other projects running at 16Mhz and they run fine. So I think this finally puts the nail in the coffin for overclocking these chips.

You made my Day

Ok

Waaaaaaaaaas hast du gesagt ???????

"Herr Ober, in meiner Suppe schwimmt ja ein HÖRGERÄT!!!"
"Wie bitte?"

I've used them for years, with a bad SID piggybacked so that the computer still works right (RNG).
They aren't perfect, but neither are any of the others. I have BackSID, ReDIP-SID, ARMSID/ARM2SID, and the one in the 1541u2, and they all have glitches/weaknesses compared to a real SID. I have not tried the SIDKick but since it's based on ReSID, I assume it's similar to the ReDIP-SID.

Never Heard of ReDIP-SID?

Of course none of the replacements sound 100% like the SID you had in your youth. Duh.
But only the SwinSID completely misses notes, gets out of sync, plays notes with wrong duration, doesn't even get the general pitch right or randomly changes overall volume AND breaks some game logic in subtle ways. It's really a wholly different class, and not in the good sense.
Again, see this comparison.
SwinSID outright butchers, e.g., Last Ninja 2.
None of the other replacements do that.
