Hi Dave. Thank you very much for the info and the great videos (funny dancing!). I like the VZ200 very much, too, but my Tape Drive is not working due to mechanical problems. Do you by chance know where I can find information in repairing that device? The Buttons kinda jam, when in use. Is there any modern storage technology like SD-Card available?
DeepL:
Hallo Dave.

Kompromissen.

Hi Dave here (Bushy). Somewhere in Australia. Have utterly absolute zero German, and am writing this both in English and German via google down below.
Found this forum and this thread after doing a google. I love finding snippets like these!
Absolutely still love the VZ. We've blown it out singing and dancing - Youtube search "2018AD demo". These fellows have managed to get 128x96 4 colour from doing fancy timing with the 6847.
[Externes Medium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fD6-hjpYN7c]- thats me dancing like a twit after putting this up on our local movie theatre.
I've managed to pull 8 colours on the one screen from splitting MODE(1) via timing.
Have also ported over heaps (about 40) different 1-bit sound engines from Utz and Shiru from the ZX-Spectrum scene, and the VZ can sing it out like the best of them - Youtube search "VZ200 1-bit music" for a few examples.
Example:[Externes Medium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aimDaYDt2FU]
[Externes Medium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzd-DifU9Kg]
[Externes Medium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ols1dqZVXfg]- this can also be played out through the cassette port, so, all you need to do is to plug in an amplified speaker straight in, and you'll be hearing this. This actual video is playing Fase Dos thru a modified VZ which has the peizo speaker going out to a 3.5mm jack, and from it straight into the amplifier speakers on the monitor. Works great! All of the VZ demo's on youtube with 256x192 resolution come from the VZEM emulator; which emulates *exactly* if you were to make the 256x192 mod on your real VZ. We've done testing between the emulator and a real conversion, and it is spot on.
CheersNice to see that there are people who are still doing something with the VZ...
Still have so many fond childhood memories from my year with it.
That Christmas (1985) when I got it was magical..

Hi Telespielator and everyone :
Regarding repairing the DR10 (VZ200 / Laser210 data cassette) or the DR20 (VZ300 / Laser 310 data cassette)...
unfortunately I know very little about repairing them.
My original VZ200 data cassette - I managed to blow the internal amplifier only a few years after we (parents) having owned one (I was still very young). My Father had a go at fixing it, gave up, and used an old 27 meg CB radio as the amplifier - and thusly we then had an ajustable volume control on the DR10. Was cool. Years later I gained two DR20's. I have since blown both of those up - trying to fix one with the another and managed to blow both the internal power supplies. I then went and bought a second DR10 (my fourth cassette player), and I make an effort now to use the correct 12v power supply with it.
A fellow here in Australia , who no longer is interested, came out of nowhere, said "I can build a SD card reader for the VZ". We laughed on the list. Six weeks later he had 50 made, wrote a simply FAT16 DOS to read to and from the SD card, and works extremely well. Smallest card it supports is a 16 gig micro sd card. His 50 were sold within a few days --- and for some (unknown) reason he wasnt interested in making any more. I don't really fully understand why. I wished I had bought three!
It is the only SD card reader for the VZ/LAser that I know of.
Bodhi1969: Thanks. Am using deepl now to translate this. (Never knew about it before now)
...the only other thing that I can think of of adding is that I am in the middle of a large project to attempt to gather all known published articles and software for the VZ and Laser computers. I would love to hear from anyone that has any other German written software that is not on Gernot's old VZ software website.
https://web.archive.org/web/20…//www.vz200-online.de.vu/
So far I have over 3000 scanned articles and individual .VZ snapshots that is close to 2 gig in size !
That is quite a library - still have heaps to go, though I think I am (am guessing her) perhaps over half way now in completnig this task. A fellow Aussie Bob Kitch, imported a lot of Sanyo / Laserlink VZ equipment from Germany in 1984-1987 era, because it was cheaper than purchasing the equivalent software and hardware within Australia. Eg, There may have been many many lightpens in Australia during this era, however, there are only two known VTech lightpens left in existance !
All the best from Down Under Aussie land.
Cheers
Dave

https://web.archive.org/web/20…//www.vz200-online.de.vu/
Alles Gute aus Down Under, dem australischen Land.
Prost
Dave
