MEGA65 FAULT - Help needed: Micro SD card formatting error

  • Hi guys,

I've been in touch with Trenz who are trying to help with an issue with my Mega65. I did post this on an earlier thread about a delivery problem - but as the issue has changed into something else, the guys at Trenz have suggested I start a new thread and reach out to the user community for help - while I wait for advice from their engineers. So here is the problem:

I have finally tested the Mega65, which was returned after a faulty external SD port was fixed. It would not latch the card in, so I could not add files to it.

After the repair at Trenz, the card now latches, allowing me to try and use it - but it wont format any SD cards.

Tried 3 SD cards. To the spec required - Micro SD 32gb SDHC

Starts to format and throws up a message 'Erasing configuration area 1021' - a red border appears and it locks up.

On rebooting - a message pops up saying:

    WARNING: UNSUPPORTED PAGE SIZE.

    ERROR: FAILED TO PROBE FLASH

    (DIP #3 NOT ON?)

I have attached pics of the sequence to this thread. What's even more confusing is that after this failed formatting, my SD cards now do not detect on my card reader on the PC. They show in the disk management (greyed out) - but there's no way of formatting or selecting any options on the attached SD card.

I have ordered yet another SD card from a different company to try this. So that's my last resort really. Its due to arrive today.

I have tried dip 3 on - but that has no effect (as expected). Trenz also sent a pic of the default dip switch positions - which now match mine. Still no luck.

Any ideas ??? Any info would be greatfully received. Thanks

  • Hi

I had the same problems with formating a SD card (the rear micro SD). The micro SD was a noname.

Then I tried to format a normal SD (internal). That worked.

After that, I put the micro SD in an SD adapter to have it formatted internal. That did not work either. It was clear, that my micro SD card was not working right with the Mega65. Formating the card with a PC was no problem.

I then ordered a new more expensive PNY 32 MB micro SD card. This ist working now without any issues!

  • I'm following the steps in the manual - and havent got past the SD formatting page yet - so not really had any use of the machine so far :(

Using an external SD card is optional. You can work with the machine just with the internal SD card present. I haven't used the external slot for a long time. So, while of course you want to find out why it is not working, you can still continue exploring the machine without it.

  • Hi guys. Just wanted to finalize some threads on here as I have been away for a few weeks with an unexpected illness. Fighting fit again now - so back onto the Mega65 testing.

After all the drama, and using various SD cards - it turns out original SanDisk Ultra 32 GB I purchased must have been faulty.

It sent me on a mission to try different brands, which took weeks and didn't give me any positive results.

I bought another SanDisk and bingo.... It worked.

So I've been going in circles for a bit due to a faulty card, but finally have a working SD card.

Thanks for all your input. I am finally able to start using the machine !
