1541 Newtronic/Mitsumi head resistance values

  • Hi all,

I finally (not completely by accident ;)) got my hands on a working Newtronics/Mitsumi 1541 (shortboard) drive.

It's quite a rare drive to have in working condition, due to a possible production defect in the r/w head that makes it very easily burn out and short in time. ALPS drives are much more durable in this regard.

Some time ago I got a Newtronic drive from eBay (declared generally as not-tested) and I was not surprised to find out it was one of the defective, broken ones. To test if the head was the problem I tested the resistance on the P8 connector (detaching it from the PCB). Generally, 0 Ohm means fault (as in my case).

But what should be the "correct" values? I tried to get this info and I found many different answers (forums, repairing manuals, schematics, etc).... very confusing.

So, I want to share here the values I found on my "rare" working drive as a reference for some other poor guy who's trying to find some empirical values.

These values are measured directly on the disconnected P8 connector.

    Hope this helps someone.
