  • Playing it since yesterday. A great update of an already awesome game, even in it's unfinished state. And this build has some cool features like 2 button support and a tournament mode, which add to the overall longevity and playability. Also how you managed to implement all these moves into the joystick controls and still keep it just als fluidly playable as on the console versions is astonishing. And I'm playing this with only one fire button. Overall this already was the best fighting game on the platform with the previous build and it's even got quite a bit better now. My only complaint would be the music. Saying this from a user-only perspective as I don't know much about what is possible from a programmer's point of view. But I've heard numerous 2-channel-soundtracks on C64 that have richer "orchestration" than the tunes in this one. Here it's mostly just drums and one voice playing. A bassline is often missing. Also you would expect that arp-chords to accompany the lead melodies are being used more often than they are in here, especially considering only two channels are available. If I could place a wish, it would definitely be the music getting more (virtual/arp-)voices and details like vibrato, wave-changes, combined instruments (like bassdrum + bass, snare + bass as e. g. Jeroen Tel used to do). But don't get me wrong: This is already an absolutely amazing release and if it stays that way on the musical part, so be it. I'll be paying for any form of official release for sure.
