Would there be an option for users without a 2nd/3rd button?
How to brake?

How to brake?
Using a standard Joystick it's not possible: Up, down, fire -> 3 actions - Gas, Brake, Gear Up, Geard Down -> 4 actions
Maybe i could change joystick port# and add "press space" to do an action....
I guess not many users have such special joysticks.
If possible and you have time/agree, I think an option to select between Paddle, 1-button jostick, 2-button joystick, 3-button joystick would serve all users needs and have still the added car selection.
For the input devices that do not fit your extended operation actions, you could just use a fallback solution with the inital operation style maybe.
For single button joystick, why not use this?:
Up - gas
Down - brake
Firebutton and up - gear up
Firebutton and down - gear down
I never really missed the brake in this game. ![]()
I never really missed the brake in this game.
True... for this I sacrificed the brakes by combining them with the second fire.
During the games you push Gas almost all time, so i dont know is better UP than FIRE.
But DOWN+FIRE could be a valide alternative for brake.
PS:
Nowadays, please your old C64... give him a modern joystick with at least second fire, C64 GS style ![]()

I'd really love to see this option more, although I don't have such a joystick.
OT: But isn't this a forum with highly creative members?
Maybe someone finds an easy way to enhance existing joysticks with a second button? For example I could imagine that you could re-wire a button of a Competition Pro joystick, but probably you would have to change the cable.

I think there aren't really options available expecpt self modification of classic joysticks or some console gamepads hooked up by adapters or connected to modern hardware/emulation.
C64GS joystick is also very hard to find.

To add a secon button in a standard joystick, it must have 9 pin/wires full cable and this is rare.
To buy a complete cable is easy end cheap on aliexpress, for example.
look at my old project: Bitte melde dich an, um diesen Link zu sehen.
But you can eliminate 3rd button and START & SELECT buttons....
Just recently, the modern wireless gamepad called "Turbo 2000 Super" appeared. It has multiple buttons and can be plugged into the C64/Amiga controlport. It can be bought in several online retro stores. I am quite satisfied with mine.
