Aus mir unbekannten Gründen lief plötzlich die Email-Konfiguration (postfix) nicht mehr auf meinem Ubuntu 18.04 Server.
Pröbelte dann an der main.cf rum, bis wieder Emails versendet werden konnten.
Nur frass saslauthd (mit top in der Konsole angeschaut) plötzlich 100% CPU und 80% RAM.
Fand dann nach langem suchen diesen alten Thread, welcher Abhilfe schuf.

In /etc/default/saslauthd
OPTIONS="-c -m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r"
nach
OPTIONS="-n 0 -c -m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r"
ändern.
adding "-n 0" effectively prevents the saslauthd daemon from using thread processes by using forks instead.
( on 1 of my servers it used up 8GB and 16GB swap.... which was freed up instantaneously upon changing the config and invoking /etc/init.d/saslauthd restart )
Nun sieht es ganz vernünftig aus. 2% CPU, 0.4% RAM
