About the battery holder, why have you put a CR1220 battery holder on the PCB and not a CR2032 ? CR2032 have way more capacity than those crap CR1220 ![]()
Case looks amazing ![]()

i've got the battery running, in my MEGA65, now for around a year and it's still fine.
So i would say: it saves space on the mainboard and it is sufficent.
I'll check back with our hardware design member and i'll ask him.
CR2032 batteries also have the advantage of being more commonly used on mainboards. Most people will have some spares at home, while I haven't come across a CR1220 in real life yet.

Summary: CR2032 lasts 6 times longer than CR1220
If possible, never use CR1220, they are bad. There is plenty of space in Mega65 and we all want it to be as good as possible and if possible, please change to CR2032 batteryholer.
Thanks for all the great work ![]()

Or 65 Ah for more than 200 years of great Mega65 fun:

That big battery looks almost as big as the one in the MEGAphone ![]()
But back to the CR1220: They should last about 2.5 years between changes, as the RTC needs only 1.6 micro Amps.
CR1220 is rated to 35mAh = 35000 microAh = ~21,875 hours battery life = ~2.5 years expected time between changing batteries.
Putting a spot for a 2032 on the PCB would actually cause some routing problems, and we don't want to hold the machine up any more on things that are not vital. There is nothing stopping folks from making the installation of a bigger battery holder their first hardware hack on the MEGA65, but the time to do so would exceed that of changing the battery 10 times, I suspect. Same goes for fitting a Mr.Fusion.
But more importantly, the battery only goes flat when the MEGA65 is not being used, so there is a much simpler solution to making your battery last longer ![]()

Our hardware designer gave us some feedback and said, that the battery lasts about 2.5 years.
We can't promise anything at this point in the development of the MEGA65 R3 board anymore.
It is a good point but it would have been better, if this comment would have had come, roughly 4 weeks earlier.

So if the battery holder is not the show stopper for you (@all)
The MEGA65 is for tinkering with, if you don't like the battery on board, design an adapter for a battery type/size you prefer more, document it and post it here. I might be interested

(Having the MEGA65 RTC powered with an CR2032 lasting 12+ years... adding an eInk display to the case... and build a small watch...)![]()

But actually, I have the adapter for that here. Its called a power cord (we are on the same grid as that big battery, and drive more or less past it on the way to our spot here in the Outback ;). That battery is actually being really helpful for us, reducing power prices already, because it stopped the little gas generators holding everyone to ransom and purposely driving electricity prices up.

No prob guys, just wanted to let you know about cr2032. Didn't know about re-routing PCB problems so all fine with 1220 and 2.5 years in that case ![]()
Hey, no worries, and we'd much rather have issues raised twice than miss something important.

Not wanting to deal with the unusual battery type, this is what I did:

Easy - peasy. Can be done with a simple pencil-tip soldering iron.
I got several CR2032 holders, but the bigger size makes it impossible to fit one directly on the pads of the original one. So I chose the holder that seemed most robust and mounted it with wires and a bit of double-sided tape.
