Is the Sidekick trying to snoop the bus and do interrupt the kernal to enter it's interface?
I ask because it seems very unfriendly to custom kernals.

Is the Sidekick trying to snoop the bus and do interrupt the kernal to enter it's interface?
no, it's functioning like a normal cartridge (via EXROM/GAME), it doesn't do any guesswork what's going on
which kernal are you using?

I use either the regular Jiffy kernal, or the Jiffy-Dolphin kernal. I also modify it to skip the RAM test so it boots immediately.
I would say that is what the SideKick doesn't like, but I also modified the regular CBM v3 kernal this way and it does work with Sidekick.
I also often use the Jiffy-Dolphin kernal without any problems. SK64 simply pulls GAME and EXROM low and emulates a 16K Cartridge, $8000-$9FFF / $A000-$BFFF. Have you (manually) checked if the CBM80 signature is at $8000?
You didn't say what "SK64 being unfriendly" looks like ![]()
difference between a lcx07 and an lvc07
both are 5v-tolerant, the difference is the (range of) supply voltage(s)
Thank you for clarifying this. Very interesting.

r.cade are you able to post a copy of your custom kernal ROM's?
I can try it on my Sidekick64 cartridge to see if I can replicate this issue.

Sorry, when powered on, I just get a blank screen with borders instead of the SideKick interface.

hm, did you change anything else in addition to skipping the RAM test? (SK calls a few kernal routines during startup, did any addresses change?)

I will send them to you in PM to take a look. All I did was disable the RAM check on them.

I've tested your kernals on both PAL and NTSC (on a 250425) and I did not experience any problems. SK64 came up as it should... is there anything special about your C64?

I guess I need to test it on one of my others. Maybe there is some issue...

I believe on this C64, C24 was reduced to lower the boot/reset time also. It seems to be too much for some reason. I will put it back to stock 10uF or 22uF.

interesting! so this controls how long RESET is pulled? Have you measured how long it has been using your C24?

I'll take a look. I know I meddled with it years ago to try to get it as fast as possible. You don't know how much of my life as a kid was waiting for C64 bootup, and it was only seconds!
Has anyone managed to get the new Eye of The Beholder (https://csdb.dk/release/?id=226060) game running via the SideKick64 on a C128?
When I get to the start of the game where it offers the possibiliy to run it in 2Mhz it crashes before I can make a selection and goes to a blue screen.
Wow! Automap via VDC!

2MHz mode caused a crash for me but if I leave it off it runs for me but with some minor graphical glitches.
Frenetic already stated that he would have a look in the other thread regarding EofB.
Hallo Frenetic,
